Teach A-level chemistry? Sign up now for this free to attend training day for new and inexperienced chemistry teachers. The aim of the day is to improve teachers’ confidence in carrying out and teaching A-level chemistry practical activities.

9.00 – 9.15          Arrival and registration
9.15 – 10.15       Session 1 AS organic practical techniques
                            -   Rates of hydrolysis of haloalkanes
                            -   Oxidation of alcohols
                            -   Dehydration of alcohols
10.15 – 11.00    Session 2 making up a standard solution and titration
11.00 – 11.20    Break
11.20 – 12.00    Session 3 A2 rates of reaction
12.00 – 12.45    Session 4 Electrochemistry
12.45 – 1.30      Lunch
1.30 – 2.30       Session 5 A2 organic practical techniques:
                          -   Heating under reflux
                          -   Distillation
                         -    Filtration under reduced pressure
                         -    Melting point testing
2.30 – 3.15      Session 6 estimating the copper content of brass
