Our Open Access Books Policy
Open Access is at the core of our mission to help the chemical sciences make the world a better place. One where everyone can access and benefit from knowledge and discoveries – including researchers, funders, policymakers and the general public.
1. Gold Open Access
When authors or volume editors have access to funding for a book processing charge, we will publish a digital edition of the book under a , making it available to everyone through our books platform, as well the Open Library of Open Access Books (OAPEN) and the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB). Other digital versions and the print edition will be available to purchase.
We are also pleased to offer open access to individual chapters when contributing authors are mandated by their funding body.
2. Green Open Access and Sharing Policies
When you publish in a UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ of Chemistry book, the agreement you sign will state what you are allowed to do with your work. For authors of chapters in collected volumes, our agreement allows you to make your original, submitted version available after a 36-month embargo period. This is known as the green route to open access.
How you can share or deposit your book or chapter (via green open access)
We distinguish between your original version (of a chapter, or full book, submitted to us before we have copy-edited and type-set), and later versions (the proofs, or the final version which is found in the printed work).

High production standards for open access books
Open access books undergo the same peer-review process and follow the commitment to author care and high production standards we hold for non-open access books. Author copyright is maintained in accordance with our standard book agreements, ensuring our books reach the widest possible audience and meet funders’ mandates.
