We look back at our 4th Librarian Appreciation Day in Kolkata.
Library celebrations in India
On 23 August 2019, over 100 librarians gathered from leading research institutes, universities and institutions from across India and Sri Lanka for our annual Librarian Appreciation Day.
A flagship event, the Librarian Appreciation Day brings together librarians working in a range of sectors to hear from experts, participate in workshops and share ideas via panel discussions and networking.
Kolkata’s event was the fourth we have organised, with earlier such events organised in 2013, 2015 and 2017 at Hyderabad, Pune and Jaipur, respectively.
Highlighting an important role
Appa Rao Patra, Sales Manager for India & Middle East, said: “[Our] fourth librarian day received an overwhelming response by the Indian librarian community. It’s a platform to appreciate the librarian’s role in empowering research and learning, in an attempt to redefine the role of academic librarians for future.â€
As well as a chance for librarians from all over India and Sri Lanka to meet, exchange ideas, and foster new collaborations, the event was also a valuable opportunity for UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ of Chemistry representatives to speak to the librarian community in this region and gather feedback and requirements for future support.
Recognising achievement
Presenting awards and certificates is a key part of every Librarian Appreciation Day. This year we awarded seven institutes in different categories for content usage and downloads, and recognised two institutes for their publishing output in UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ of Chemistry journals.
We also presented the two awards that recognise individuals for their contribution towards library and library science community in India:
- Librarians Choice Award for Lifetime Achievement – awarded to Dr H Anil Kumar, IIM-Ahmedabad
- Librarians Choice Award for Dynamic Librarian – awarded to Dr Nabi Hasan, IIT- Delhi
Congratulations again to the winners, and to all of our award recipients. We look forward to working with you further and developing new partnerships in 2020.
