The purpose of the bursary is to help encourage early career chemists (particularly during the first 10 years of their career)and you need to make it clear in your application how this applies to your circumstances. Members can apply for financial assistance to advance their career in relation to the following activities, to: Attend conferences for the purpose of presenting a poster or paper Attend research meetings (including young researcher meetings) Visit UK or international laboratories Complete training courses; and Assist in research relating to water science projects in general Please note that activities are not restricted to those above only. However, the activity needs to contain a high proportion of water related chemical science which contributes to water sustainability (environment, economic, social) and have an identifiable practical application. In order to provide maximum benefit to as many members as possible, the bursary is restricted to one successful application per member. Applicants must be members of the UUֱ of Chemistry and the Water Science Forum. The value of each bursary will be not more than 50% of the agreed cost and will be awarded subject to satisfactory receipts. Please note 25% of any award will be withheld pending satisfactory completion of a report or article for the Newsletter and/or presentation to a Committee Meeting. All requests for financial support are considered on their merits. Therefore, it is vital that the application form contains sufficient detail for the Committee to make an informed assessment on the degree of water related chemical science involved. The applicant also needs to identify how their project is likely to further the Water Science Forums aims and objectives. Applications should be made on the attached form and submitted to the Secretary of the Water Science Forum either electronically or care of Thomas Graham House. Each application is then reviewed by the Water Science Forum bursary group by no later than 30th April. Should there be an under-allocation of budget in a financial year, the Water Science Forum may choose to hold a second call for nominations, usually from June to September. Successful applicants should note that any payments made in advance will go to the organising body, and not to the individual. As part of the conditions of the bursary, it is normal for a bursary recipient to either attend one of our committee meetings to report in person on the outcome of the project, or to write a short report for our Newsletter, or even to attend a WSF event to give a verbal report. Please return completed form to: Secretary - Water Science Forum c/o Member Services UUֱ of Chemistry Thomas Graham House Science Park, Milton Road Cambridge CB4 0WF or email it to HYPERLINK "mailto:NETWORKS@rsc.org" NETWORKS@rsc.org FAO the Secretary, Water Science Forum.
