UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Kent Local Section Level 3 YoungChemist Award

23 May 2025

Introduction
Eligibility: YoungChemist is open to secondary school students aged 16-18 and based in Kent who are passionate about chemistry and their chemistry education. To be eligible, students must be enrolled at a school in Kent and be nominated by their teacher, with each school allowed to submit only one nomination. Students should register with their teacher while enrolled on their Chemistry A-Level, AS course, IB program, BTEC and T-Level or Level 3 qualification.

Requirements: The nominated students should be passionate about chemistry.
The YoungChemist Award is based on a teacher's recommendation and should include at least one of the following:
  • Conduct a non-core practical: Describe the experiment and create a resource for teaching, preferably including a video or infographic;
  • Submit a history of chemistry research: Highlight the contributions of a chemist in their local community through research. This can be presented as a PPT or recorded video, focusing on role models, especially female or local chemists from BAME groups;
  • Organize a STEM school event related to chemistry (such as an in-house competition, poster challenge, presentations, or talks) and document it with a video or blog;
  • Mentoring students at school and evidence the impact;
  • Create or maintain a website or blog, or produce video clips related to chemistry within their community.
Nominations will be reviewed by a subcommittee of professionals from the UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Kent Local section, comprising members from universities, industry, and education. The YoungChemist Award includes a gold, silver, or bronze certificate, a prize of £100, £75, or £50, and the publication of their name and entries on the UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Kent Section website, and other UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ publications. Winners will be invited to an awards event.

To submit a nomination fill in the corresponding Google form by 23rd May 2025. All data submitted will be treated confidentially and not disclosed to third parties. The organisers will communicate with teachers only.
