1 December 2011, Cambridge, United Kingdom

Introduction
History of Science lecture. The long road from Aristotelian element to dihydrogen monoxide molecule.
Every schoolchild knows that water is H2O, but it was a terribly difficult thing for scientists to learn originally. This talk will explore the history of our knowledge of water, from Lavoisier in the 18th century through Cavendish, Priestley, Dalton and Avogadro to our current consensus on the molecular formula of this most important of molecules.
