BNASS 2018: The 19th Biennial National Atomic Spectroscopy Symposium

2 July 2018 13:00 - 4 July 2018 14:00, London, United Kingdom

Introduction
BNASS (Biennial National Atomic Spectroscopy Symposium) is the biennial meeting of the UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ Atomic Spectroscopy Group and provides an ideal forum to encourage the exchange of ideas and knowledge in analytical atomic spectroscopy. BNASS is over 30 years old and during that time, there have been some tremendous changes in atomic spectroscopy. These advances have been showcased at BNASS, which has built an international reputation for both the quality of the science presented and the unique style of the symposium, enabling delegates to meet and discuss issues in a social setting. The meeting includes a mix of established and younger speakers, and the organisers would especially like to encourage young researchers to present their results in short oral presentations within each of the topic sessions. Abstract submission is now closed. The agenda will be released shortly.
  • Recent atomic spectroscopy advances
  • Fundamentals of collision cells including triple quadrupole MS
  • Measurement of nanoparticles (single particle analysis and field-flow fractionation)
  • Bio-imaging and laser ablation applications
  • Speciation and metallomics
  • Biological and clinical applications of trace element analysis
  • Environmental analysis
  • Food analysis
Workshops
There are three workshops scheduled for Monday 2nd July 9.30am to 12.30pm before the start of BNASS.
  • Measurement Uncertainty and Traceability in the Modern Laboratory
Presented by Marina Patriarca, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Rome, Italy and Bertil Magnusson, Research Institutes of Sweden, Bioscience & Materials, Chemistry & Materials, on behalf of Eurachem.
The workshop will give an overview of the concepts of metrological traceability and measurement uncertainty and related guidance for their application in the analytical laboratory.  Participants will work on practical examples to document the traceability of their measurement results as well as calculate and assess their estimates of measurement uncertainty.
  • Nanoparticle Analysis: using spICP-MS and FFF
Presented by Heidi Goenaga Infante, Susana Nunez and Dorota Bartczak and hosted at LGC, Teddington, Middlesex, TW11 0LY.
The workshop will give an overview of the concepts of nanoparticle analysis utilising spICP-MS and FFF techniques. It will highlight the analytical challenges with this complex but important area of research.
  • New Innovations in ICP-MS Instrumentation—Industry Sponsored
    Presented by the instrument manufacturers.
The workshop is an opportunity to highlight the latest developments in technology and applications within atomic spectroscopy.
