Energy in Scotland - innovation, resilience and market reform

29 November 2016 08:30-13:00, Central, United Kingdom

Introduction
Timed to coincide with the development of the Scottish Government’s energy strategy, expected in late 2016, and following the conclusion of the CMA’s investigation into the energy market, this seminar will provide an opportunity to discuss next steps for energy policy and market reform.

Delegates will consider the future of the energy mix, looking at investment, innovation and sustainability in light of emerging issues arising from the EU referendum and following cuts to renewable subsidies. Sessions will also focus on challenges surrounding the development of a flexible energy system - including consumer demand and the delivery and usage of energy - and the next steps for the energy market within the wider UK context.

This seminar will bring together Members of the Scottish Parliament and senior officials from the Scottish Government, representatives from the energy sector including businesses operating in the renewable - including solar power and onshore and offshore wind - and non-renewable energy sectors, the environmental sectors, their suppliers and advisors; representatives from local government and interest groups; along with academics and commentators.

We are delighted that Chris Stark, Director of Energy and Climate Change, The Scottish Government; John Fiennes, Director, Energy Strategy, Networks and Markets, Department of Energy and Climate Change and a senior speaker from the Competition and Markets Authority have agreed to deliver keynote addresses at this seminar.

Keith Bell, ScottishPower Professor of Smart Grids, University of Strathclyde; John Forster, Chair, STA Scotland and Chair, Forster Group; Professor Stuart Haszeldine, Director, SCCS and Professor of Carbon Capture and Storage, Edinburgh University; Clare Lavelle, Scottish Energy Consulting Lead, Arup and Dr Brian Tilley, Head of Energy Policy, E.ON have also agreed to speak, along with senior speakers confirmed from Ofgem; Flexitricity and SP Energy Networks.

Claudia Beamish MSP, Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Spokesperson, Scottish Labour Party has kindly agreed to chair a session at this seminar.
