Teacher network meeting: Practical independent research projects in secondary science

11 December 2015, York, United Kingdom

Introduction
The University of York Science Education Group Network brings together teachers and researchers to explore the connections between research and practice.
Recent changes in the assessment of practical work has resulted in considerable interest in the role that practical independent research projects could play in school science. What benefits are there to pupils in undertaking such projects? What impact do they have on pupils' interest in science? This interactive workshop will focus on a review of research on practical independent research projects in secondary science led by Professor Judith Bennett and conducted by researchers at the University of York and University College London Institute of Education. In the session we will explore the implications of the review’s findings for practice in school.
