PACN Nigeria - R&D Symposium - Regulatory Harmonisation, Hygiene and Sustainability

9 July 2013, Lagos, Nigeria

Introduction
This year's PACN Congress on Sustainability in Africa will take place at the African Hall in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, bringing together over 150 participants from all over the world to discuss their current research, new developments, and trends in sustainability. For more information, please use the links on the side of this page. The UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ of Chemistry is delighted to welcome you to the Pan Africa Chemistry Network (PACN) Nigeria conference on Regulatory Harmonisation, Hygiene and Sustainability.

PACN is an initiative of the UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ of Chemistry (UK) which has been sponsored by Syngenta and the UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ since 2007. It currently has three activity hubs: the Kenyan hub which is based at the Department of Chemistry, University of Nairobi; the Ethiopian hub, based at the Faculty of Science, Addis Ababa University and the South African hub, and the support of two UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ local sections based in Johannesburg and Cape Town. We are extremely pleased that since 2012 Procter & Gamble (P&G) has joined the PACN initiative making it possible to extend and diversify current PACN activities. This is the second event that will take place in Africa in partnership with P&G with both events taking place in Nigeria – showcasing the commitment of P&G and UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ to develop stronger links with the Nigerian scientific community.

This meeting has been co-organised with the Science and Innovation Network which is part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) at the British High Commission and the UK Trade and Investment in Nigeria. Other key partners include the Chemical Society of Nigeria, the Institute of Chartered Chemists Nigeria and the Nigeria Academy of Sciences.  Special thanks to Dr Umar Bindir, Director General at the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion and the University of Lagos, for joining us in this endeavour which we anticipate will develop long term collaboration amongst all our partners.

We would like to extend special thanks to the local organising committee and representatives of the UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ in Nigeria: Professor Familoni, University of Lagos, Professor Lohdip, Jos University and Professor Okoro, University of Nigeria.  We are indebted to Mr Adewale Adebajo, Communications Manager at the British Deputy High Commission Lagos, for his help and generous support and of course to our hosts, the University of Lagos.

We thank all the speakers and participants for taking part. We hope that the lectures will stimulate the exchange of ideas and experiences. We anticipate that bringing together researchers in these key areas will provide excellent opportunities for networking and initiating collaboration.

Finally, we would especially like to express our gratitude to P&G for their invaluable support and dedication to the development of this programme, in particular, Dr Funmi Ajayi and Dr Tom Henrich, and, Raffaele Scoccianti – their commitment and diligence has been enormously appreciated throughout the many months of working together to bring this event to fruition.

Again, we welcome you all to what promises to be an exciting conference.
